Utilizing mechanical refrigeration rather than liquid nitrogen (LN2) for rapid product temperature change rates, Thermotron's AST-20R is a logical choice for installations where liquid nitrogen infrastructure has not yet been established.

The AST-20R features a 24" x 24" (61cm x 61cm) multi-axis, repetitive shock vibration table capable of producing acceleration levels in excess of 50 grms. The patented vibration system provides consistent power spectral density energy over a broad range. Direct coupling of the product under test to the vibration table transmits maximum dynamic stress into the product.

Extreme thermal stresses are imparted to products through high temperature change rates in excess of 50°C per minute. With high volume, high velocity airflow that is configurable through slot and adjustable ducts, maximized thermal stress is directed onto the product, accelerating product failure rates.

Using mechanical refrigeration instead of liquid nitrogen allows the AST-20R to achieve the rapid cooling rates required for HALT and HASS test profiles. However for applications requiring excess cooling capacity, a liquid nitrogen boost can be added as a supplement of the mechanical refrigeration system.

There are advantages to both refrigeration methods:

Mechanical Advantages Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Advantages
Safer Quieter
Lower installation costs Equipment costs less initially
Lower operating costs Lower preventive maintenance costs
One less utility required Fewer moving parts
Consumes no utilities when idle Equipment occupies less floor space
  Low temperature range to -100°C

Our PC-based AST-8800 control system has been designed specifically for extreme change rate chambers and repetitive shock vibration systems. It features a 17-inch flat panel monitor that displays power spectral density, temperature and acceleration data all on easy-to-read screens. Ethernet-compatible and web-enabled with an internet-ready front end for virtual anytime/anywhere access.
