Universal Port Application Highlight - Data Storage Test Module

A test module has been developed utilizing a SE-1000-15 chamber with two Universal Ports, one on the left and one on the right. Data Storage Test Modules are interfaced on both sides of the chamber. The Data Storage Modules have full-opening doors front and back. Air circulates vertically through each rack of hard drives from bottom to top. One rack of drives in each Data Storage Test Module gives off 3.5 kW and weighs 1,800 pounds. Double this to get the total heat load! The temperature cycle is between 5°C and 60°C at 0.3°C/Min. This equipment is used for production screening. When the test is complete, the individual drives are pulled from the rack. The rack remains in the Data Storage Test Module and a new batch of drives are loaded.

The customer favors this new approach over older walk-in chambers. The old walk-ins are prone to leakage, moisture condensation, and associated water problems. The walk-ins take up more floor space than the SE chambers and Data Storage Test Modules. This new test equipment configuration also provides added piece of mind. Multiple test stations have been purchased, so it is no longer the case of 'having all the eggs in one basket.'

The company that purchased this equipment produces disk storage systems, storage area networks (SAN), tape backup solutions, network attached storage (NAS), and infrastructure management systems.

These enclosures could be easily applied to several applications in a wide variety of industry and product testing scenarios.

Features of the Data Storage Test Module:

  • Double doors for improved loading and unloading access.
  • Power for the modules comes directly from the SE chamber - only one power drop required per test station.
  • Cable slots in the floor of each Module provide for easy wiring access.
  • Air circulation through products from bottom to top.
  • A spacious 32" wide x 70" deep x 82" high workspace inside the Data Storage Module accomodates high production testing volumes.
  • Flexibility to use the SE chamber as a stand alone temperature test chamber.
  • Each Data Storage Test Module has its own ThermAlarm for independent protection.
  • Multiple test stations have an advantage over one walk-in; if one system fails, there are several backups that can continue to handle production testing requirements.
  • Two lights are included in each Test Module to illuminate the interior.
  • An air diverter plenum is fitted into each SE chamber directs the flow of conditioned air into the Test Modules.
  • Each Data Storage Test Module incorporates its own air circulation system using a 3/4 Hp blower to draw air up through the Test Module and exhaust it back into the SE chamber for reconditioning.
